As I'm using a charm pack instead of a layer cake, I've cut the leaves only for one dresden first, to check how it will go.
As you can see:
I have 24 leaves and not 21 in my circle.
The leaves are half the size of the original template, but I used standard 1/4" seam allowance, so after sewing all 21 leaves together I discovered that I couldn't form a circle without adding 3 more.Mmm, at least I hope it was not the result of my stiches being so inacurate.
I'm quite pleased with the result (I wasn't going to use the black but I think it makes the circle more interesting).
Now I need help with changing the size of the remaining templates :)
Alternatively I think I could try to sew everything at 1/8" seam allowance... (with my not so very acurate stiches... ouch...)
What do you think?
Well, I think it looks pretty the way it is. You could increase the size of the template, but I think, if you're not unhappy with 24, I'd just leave it for the ease of completing it! Cute!
ReplyDeleteI'd stick with what you've got and 24 is a nice even number of leaves too. For the central circle template, just drawn round a mug or a cotton reel, for the outer template, what is the diameter of the circle and I can help you if you like :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's great - I think smaller is better. I've just cut all my pieces and I didn't realise it would be so big.
ReplyDeleteI think this looks great! I'll be interested to see how it works with the charm pack size because I've got loads of those hanging around! If I manage one big block, smaller ones to make a quilt might be the way to go :)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks fabulous.
