Soft Kitty...

...warm kitty, little ball of fur...
Well, not exactly, but the Soft Kitty quilt was actually finished at least three weeks ago.
Unfortunately every time new snow falls it gets all dirty and ugly before the weekend and I can't steal borrow my neighbours' clothes line to take a photo of the finished quilt.
So, let me at least show it in use:

It's not asymmetrical, our bed is just not that wide.

It's backed and bound with a very nice and soft map fabric I found in my local fabric shop - I hope to show it to you when the weather gets better.

And it's my first finish on the very short (but probably still too long) FAL list.

You know I'm not good at blogging personal stuff, but just this once I wanted to share something. It might sound strange, as there is no connection, but without this I feel I cannot continue sharing my adventures into sewing or creating in general.
However, after 2.5 weeks I still cannot think of a way to put it into proper words.
So, this space




will remain here for all the grief and helplessness and feeling of how unfair things are, but also for all the memories, starting from the time so many years ago, when we first visited the-girl-at-whose-place-the-dog-jumps-from-behind-the-big-stone. And for gratefulness for all the time we shared, for the feeling of friendship and connection that stayed strong even when we couldn't meet for long stretches of time.  And also for gratefulness for making the quilt still in time...

Lazy Saturday

It's winter here again, with fair amount of snow, -8C and grey sky, so staying at home feels a perfect choice. A little lazy sewing project is also something that feels just right:

This is one of bunnies from the series of little books with patterns for Tilda dolls, bunnies, angels and birds. And I've just noticed the project is even called Lazy Days.
Anyway, I decided to make her clothes (and ears) in green and to add a little pocket instead of an embroidered heart. As my sister said - it's a spring outfit.
And although the pattern calls for stitching the clothes to the bunny, I prefer the idea of being able to change the doll's clothes, so I added small adjustments (e.g. tiny pieces of velcro for the straps) to make it possible.

FAL 2013

I didn't manage to join Rhonda - the Quilter in the Gap in the Finish-A-Long 2012, but I'm hoping to amend it this year and participate in the 2013 one, this time with Leanne:

I don't have that many UFOs, but since I already have several new ideas, I need some help to focus on getting the already started ones finished.
So, here's my list:

1. The Soft Kitty quilt for my husband:

The quilt top is finished, I need to design and piece the back and decide how to quilt it (any ideas on the quilting are very welcome).

2. The wonky kites quilt:

The main part of the quilt top is ready, but it needs a border so that it's a proper bed size before I can start the backing.

3. This is a tricky one, I'm not sure if it qualifies to FAL:

These are my blocks from Leila's We Can Do It! Skill Builder Sampler. Originally they were to make one quilt, but I gradually realized that as much as I enjoyed making each block (and learning a lot in the process) I really couldn't see them together in one quilt. I think sampler quilts may not be my thing after all. So, instead I'm planning on making several baby quilts with just two or three blocks and lots of background (not necessarily solid). My goal for Q1 would be to finish one such a quilt to see if the idea makes sense.

We'll see how it goes. Can I count on you keeping your fingers crossed for me?
